Applications are now open for places on the Law Society’s Diversity Access Scheme, which provides financial support for the Legal Practice Course (LPC), as well as access to work experience opportunities and mentoring.
The Diversity Access Scheme (DAS) was founded to support social mobility and diversity in the legal profession by providing assistance to talented candidates who face social, financial or personal obstacles to becoming a solicitor. Since the scheme was founded in 2004, it has supported over 200 aspiring solicitors.
Christina Blacklaws, president of the Law Society, encouraged any student facing barriers to qualifying to apply. She said: “To thrive, our profession needs committed solicitors from diverse backgrounds. The Law Society looks forward to welcoming up to 10 new trainees onto the Diversity Access Scheme to support them in realising their ambitions.
“I am enormously proud of previous alumni. DAS scholars have resisted coercion into arranged marriage, escaped oppressive regimes and achieved academic success while dealing with highly challenging disabilities.
“I encourage any aspiring solicitor who is facing particular challenges on their way to qualification to consider applying for a place on the Diversity Access Scheme.”
