City law firm Dentons becomes one of six law firms to achieve Menopause Friendly Accreditation across its offices in the UK, Ireland and the Middle East. After announcing its commitment to becoming a menopause-friendly employer in 2023, the firm has been recognised for its efforts to create a supportive environment for those experiencing menopause in the workplace.
To achieve the accreditation, employers are assessed by an independent panel across the following five key areas:
Dentons has introduced several measures to reach this point, including a menopause policy, which sets out the firm’s responsibility and investment in health support, flexible working arrangements and relevant training for managers and colleagues; regular awareness-raising events; and informal drop-in sessions. The firm has also made the app Peppy available to all employees and partners – the app provides free guidance from expert practitioners and 11 trained menopause mentors who can offer confidential support.
The firm is committed to supporting all employees experiencing menopause – whether those with symptoms themselves or friends, family and colleagues who know someone going through menopause.
Yvonne Garricks, head of talent development at the firm, said the accreditation “signifies a positive step forward in providing a supportive environment within the legal industry, which will benefit from efforts to support and retain senior female talent within its ranks”.
The accreditation was established by Henpicked – one of the UK’s fastest-growing websites for women over 40. Deborah Garlick, CEO and founder of Henpicked, praised Dentons for its “excellent work”, before adding: “Having a menopause policy is just the start of being menopause-friendly and taking action is where the impact is felt. With 11 menopause mentors included in offering support, Dentons is setting a great example of how best to implement meaningful conversations and change.”
