Legal apprenticeship specialist Damar Training and legal education provider BARBRI have announced a new technology partnership that embeds BARBRI’s learning technology into Damar’s solicitor apprenticeship programmes.
The ‘Damar powered by BARBRI’ model will combine the pair’s industry expertise to provide the very first solicitor apprenticeship designed specifically for the Solicitors Qualifying Exam.
The apprenticeship will offer candidates expert one-to-one and group coaching, as well as access to BARBRI’s learning management technology platform. BARBRI’s specialist technology combines artificial intelligence with real-world exam experience to create a learning programme specific to each individual apprentice.
The scheme welcomed its first cohort in April, with future students starting in Autumn 2023 which will include a longer course specifically designed for non-law graduates, as well as those currently working in paralegal or legal technician roles.
The specialised nature of the apprenticeship, made possible by BARBRI’s technology, will allow apprentices to bridge knowledge gaps and free up time to contextualise learning at work by putting these new skills into practice.
Paralegal Lewis Drew described the new route as “a perfect fit”, adding that “the ability to qualify over the course of three years while gaining experience through my role as a paralegal is incredible, allowing me to build upon valuable foundations only possible through the new apprenticeship route”.
While Lucie Allen, BARBRI’s global managing director, added that the positive response towards the solicitor’s apprenticeship came as no surprise, as it’s seen as “a robust and credible alternative route to qualify by law firms, in-house legal teams and the wider profession”.
