- Farmers are reporting a significant labour shortage to harvest crops over summer and autumn, with migrant workers predominantly from the European Union put off by Brexit uncertainty and a weakened pound. Labour shortages in this industry are at their lowest levels since 2004, reports the British Summer Fruits body.
- The United Kingdom’s largest health retailer, Holland & Barrett, has been sold to a Russian billionaire for £1.8 billion.
- An influential group of bankers has warned that the next global crash could arrive “with a vengeance”, possibly triggered by growing risks in emerging markets such as China and Thailand.
- The recent heatwave (now a distant memory) proved a boon for supermarkets, with sales of ice cream, gin and cider rocketing upwards. Lidl remains the fastest growing supermarket, with sales growth of 18.8%.
