Commercial news round-up: general election, Paris Agreement, HSBC, RBS, FlyBe

Today’s the day – and if you haven’t already, get out there and vote! The implications of the outcome of the election on all areas of our lives is major, but if you’re interested in what a win for either of the two main parties might mean to the City, read this article from the Guardian. - Many huge US companies, including General Electric, Facebook and Disney, have joined world leaders in condemning Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Their reason include the inhibition of innovation and barriers to their ability to work overseas.
- HSBC is offering its Canary Wharf staff anywhere between £750 and £2,500 if they can convince a colleague to relocate to the bank’s new headquarters in Birmingham.
- The long-running case of RBS versus its shareholders has reached settlement, with the bank paying £200 million in compensation to those shareholders who claimed to have been misled into paying £12 billion to the bank in the midst of the 2008 financial crisis.
- Aiming a bit too high, FlyBe has reported a £20 million pre-tax loss after expansion plans “proved too ambitious”.
