Commercial news round-up: Deliveroo, runways, Vodafone, Facebook

The best commercial lawyers have their fingers firmly on the pulse of the business world. If that is the role to which you aspire, starting to get a grip now on the business and economic news of the day is essential, but it can be hard to know where to start. Look no further:
- Parliamentary pressure has resulted in Deliveroo changing the terms of its employment contracts, giving its UK couriers a fairer deal when it comes to, among other things, their notice period and the ability to work elsewhere.
- Dawdle no more, says the Institute of Directors; London needs at least two more runways – over and above the controversial third runway at Heathrow – in order to catch up with European counterparts and meet traveller demand.
- Vodafone has walked away from a £20 million deal that would give it naming rights over West Ham’s stadium. The negotiations are said to have broken down over terms, and were not related to an HMRC investigation into the football team.
- Following its 2014 takeover of WhatsApp, Facebook has been fined £94 million for providing misleading information to EU competition authorities. The European Commission said that its intention was to send a clear message to all companies about complying with competition rules.
