CPS trainee scheme opens for applications

updated on 19 May 2014

The Crown Prosecution Service’s (CPS) trainee scheme opened for applications last week, with the deadline for submissions set for 31 May.

Twenty pupillages and training contracts are on offer for the CPS legal trainee scheme this year. The recruitment process is open to candidates who have already finished their vocational training (the Legal Practice Course or the Bar Professional and Training Course), or to those who are due to complete the course this academic year. The pupillages and training contracts will commence in November 2014. Further details about the criteria for candidates can be found on the CPS website, with applications submitted via an online form.

Speaking to The Training Contract Pupillage Handbook, Martin McKay-Smith (training principal at the CPS) commented: "The CPS offers a varied, challenging and interesting career for those with an interest in criminal litigation. The role of a modern prosecutor is a true public service, encompassing charging decisions, advocacy and victim and witness care."
