One year after launching its Wellbeing at the Bar online resource, the Bar Council is introducing a certification system for chambers, inns of court and other organisations which adopt mental health and wellbeing policies.
The Wellbeing at the Bar initiative provides mental health support tools on a range of issues, which the Bar Council says have been embraced by the profession. Now the representative body is inviting chambers, inns of court, specialist Bar associations, circuits and other organisations employing barristers which adopt mental health policies to apply for a certificate of recognition as a way to encourage best practice. To gain a certificate, an organisation will have to provide evidence of recent initiatives and programmes, such as education and training, mentoring schemes and/or other support mechanisms.
Certificates for the first organisations to adopt the scheme will be presented at the Annual Bar and Young Bar Conference on Saturday 4 November.
