Bar Council essay competition open for submissions, with £4,000 prize for winner

The Law Reform Committee of the Bar Council has announced the topic for its annual essay competition, sponsored by the Bar Council scholarship trust.

This year, entrants must submit an essay of not more than 3,000 words that identifies and makes the case for a law reform that is desirable, practical and useful.  Submission must be received by 5:00pm, 7 October 2014. The prizes available include £4,000 for the winner, £2,500 for the runner up, £1,500 for the best GDL student entry and £1,000 for the runner-up GDL entry. There will also be two awards of £500 for highly commended entries. All prizes will be presented at the Law Reform Committee lecture on Tuesday 18 November, at Inner Temple Hall.

The following are eligible to enter the competition:

  • pupil barristers;
  • BPTC students;
  • GDL students; and
  • qualifying law degree students and those aiming for a career at the Bar.
