BT has announced the launch of BT Law after becoming the latest famous brand to be granted an alternative business structure (ABS) licence by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).
As Legal Futures reports, BT Law will initially provide legal services to corporate customers in the motor claims market. The ABS will incorporate BT's existing claims management arm, BT Claims, and will operate across three offices in London, Sheffield and Bletchley. BT has also stated its desire to expand its legal services business into public liability and employment law over the coming years.
Miles Jobling, BT's current head of litigation and employment law who is also set to become director of BT Law, said: "The advent of ABS has changed forever the whole landscape of legal services. With our experience and market credibility we had already built a team with significant legal and claims-handling expertise. This licence now gives us the perfect platform to take this much further forward and means we can deliver whole new areas of support for our existing clients as well as hopefully developing many new relationships."
