Students from Notre Dame Sixth Form College developed key analytical and public speaking skills at a recent mock trial run by BPP Law School in Leeds.

Playing the roles of judge, witnesses, prosecution, defence and jury, the A-level law students were able to practise the skills they have learned in a realistic courtroom environment. They had prepared through a workshop run by BPP, which familiarised them with court procedures and coached them in how to effectively approach cross examination, as well as opening and closing speeches. The session formed part of BPP’s Streelaw initiative, which was nominated for a LawWorks and Attorney General Student Pro Bono Award in recognition of its work to better inform the public on the legal process.

Emma Blackstone, pro bono manager at BPP Law School, said: "We were really impressed with the performance of the students that took part in the mock trial. Not only did they seize the opportunity to develop their current knowledge and skills, but many of them also showed the natural confidence and ability needed to successfully pursue a legal career."
