BPP awarded full university status

updated on 15 August 2013

BPP University College of Professional Studies became BPP University (BPP) on 6 August 2013. The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills confirmed that the provider had fulfilled the criteria required to attain the title.

As reported by The Lawyer, BPP is the first independent private company to attain university status. In 2007 BPP was also the first for-profit education provider able to award degrees. The institution, which offers courses including the LPC and BPTC, was advised on the move by Eversheds LLP and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Peter Crisp, dean and CEO of BBP University's Law School, expressed his delight at the announcement, applauding the quality of the teaching and courses: "Our graduates are exceptionally employable, with some 96% employed or in further study within six months of leaving BPP. We give students what they want and need: practice-facing programmes which will equip them for the world of work". In May the Law School announced a new initiative to offer its LPC graduates a free course at the institution if they had failed to secure a job in the legal sector within six months.
