Applicants criticise legal profession for “misleading” job adverts

A significant number of applicants for legal roles feel misled by the job adverts that led them to apply, research shows.
A multi-sector survey of 14,600 people by recruitment consultants Hays found that 38% of applicants for roles in the legal profession felt job adverts were “misleading”. Reasons included exaggerating the opportunities available or they describing roles that didn’t match the reality.
“Unwelcoming staff” were another problem that applicants identified for legal sector employers, with 49% of respondents stating this put them off the role they were going for. The survey also indicated that candidates now expect to be able to learn almost everything about an organisation before they join.
