Magic circle firm Allen & Overy plans to increase pay for its newly qualified (NQ) solicitors but the amount will still not reach pre-pandemic levels.
The increase comes after the international firm reduced NQ salaries earlier in the year to £90,000 in a bid to weather the negative impact of covid-19 on the economy. From December 2020, the firm will increase NQ pay so that NQs will receive a minimum total compensation of £95,000, which will be backdated to November 2020.
The firm was also ranked 28th in the Social Mobility Employers Index, which ranks employers based on their actions to improve access by “progressing talent from all backgrounds”. Of the 75 employers listed, 30% were law firms.
