A group of Legal Sector Alliance (LSA) members (made up of 44 law firms and the Law Society) have unveiled their carbon footprints in a coordinated move, revealing a significant drop in emissions. LSA members reduced their total emissions over the last three years by 17,500 tonnes of CO2, which is equivalent to the annual emissions of a magic circle practice. Among the 44 were Allen & Overy, Bates Wells & Braithwaite, Cobbetts, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Linklaters and Slaughter and May.
Law Society chief executive Desmond Hudson said: "The drop in overall emissions is substantial and LSA members have continued to make significant energy reductions through behavioural changes and investment in efficient technology - generating quick payback, particularly in relation to improved metering and measurement. Reducing costs from energy use and business travel is a key driver for strategy and behavioural change."
