Legal Futures reports that BPTC and BVC graduates will be among the first to be eligible for exemption from elements of the LPC, should they wish to convert to the solicitors' side of the profession.
The SRA's education and training committee is currently considering a proposal that would allow BPTC/BVC graduates to apply to be exempt from attendance and assessment in the subjects of litigation, advocacy and drafting skills in stage one of the LPC. They would also be exempt from some of the vocational elective subjects. BVC students will also be exempt from the practical legal research skills subject. Such exemption must be sought within five years of completing the BPTC/BVC.
The SRA anticipates that providers will either create a bespoke LPC for transferring Bar graduates or that students will enter an individual learning contract with the provider.
Once approved by the SRA, any change to its training regulations would then need to be approved by the Legal Services Board.
