The College of Law and the International Bar Association (IBA) have teamed up to offer four £2,500 scholarships to students on the CoL's LLM in international legal practice, which runs from September 2012.
The LLM was launched by the Col and IBA in 2007, with input from Allen & Overy, DLA Piper and Baker & McKenzie. Tim Hughes, deputy executive director of the IBA, says about it: "The practical advantages of this LLM, in being tutored on how to conduct real cross-border transactions, will broaden the skills of any aspiring young lawyer, and we are delighted to be able to broaden access to it through offering these scholarships."
The CoL has also recently launched scholarships for its LPC, GDL and BPTC programmes, as well as its new LLB undergraduate degree, which starts in September.
To apply, students must have accepted a full-time place on the LLM course and submitted an essay, video or other form of digital presentation by 20 July 2012. The subject (which we approve of!) is "Why the world needs lawyers". Among other things, students are asked to address in their submission such issues as "Why do people need legal advice?" and "Will the world need more or fewer lawyers in the future and what sort of role might they play?".
