As reported in The Lawyer, from September 2011 it will become compulsory for all sets of chambers to use the Pupillage Portal timetable. Chambers will remain free to operate their own recruitment and selection processes outside of the portal, but any pupillage offers must be made through it. This will mean that students can apply more openly for a number of pupillages and are less restricted by application timings.
This year only, chambers will be able to make offers during the time the portal is open - from March to October - but from September, chambers outside the system will be unable to make offers before the portal offer date (usually August).
