The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) remains confident that the Legal Services Education and Training Review (LETR) will be ready to report by its original deadline of December 2012, despite earlier concerns that the review would overrun.
The news follows last week's meeting of the SRA's Education and Training Committee, when an update on the LETR's progress confirmed that its research was on schedule. The LETR itself is the result of the SRA, the Bar Standards Board and the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives Professional Standards teaming up to ensure that legal education in England and Wales conforms to the Legal Services Act 2007.
The LETR also revealed plans to hold a conference in July 2012 to expand on the key issues identified by its research team, which is headed by Professor Julian Webb of the University of Warwick.
Speaking about the LETR's progress, SRA Education Manager Tracey Varnava said: "There has been a lot of progress since we last updated the committee, and we remain on track for the independent research team to deliver its final report in December 2012. The symposium in July will give us an opportunity to debate key themes emerging from the review's research and bring together a range of experiences and perspectives on the regulation of education and training from other disciplines and jurisdictions. There's lots going on with the review, we're very much on track to meet our ambitious deadline."
