SRA's work-based learning pilot enters final evaluation stage

updated on 13 February 2012

Following a report last year, the SRA has appointed BMG Research to conduct the final evaluation of the regulator’s work-based learning (WBL) pilot. The study, building on findings made by the University of Middlesex, will focus on the part-time cohort of students at Nottingham Law School, as well as a similar approach offered by the University of Northumbria.

Birmingham-based BMG will conduct ongoing research until June 2012, recording the opinions of the part-time students, teaching staff and legal employers. The WBL pilot's findings will complement the wider legal education and training review (LETR) currently taking place and set to conclude in December 2012.

Maxine Warr, the SRA's education and training policy manager, said: "The WBL pilot project has been an important study for us as we explore ways to assess competence at the training contract stage. We will seek to build on our previous evaluation study to gather a comprehensive evidence base for future policy in this area."
