CoL holds career-changer events in Brum

Career-changers interested in a career in the legal profession will be interested to know that The College of Law in Birmingham is holding a series of events, called Switch to Law, aimed at people without a law degree who want to become lawyers. The events - held between 6:00pm and 8:00pm on Wednesday 26 January and Tuesday 1 February - will demonstrate that having a non-law degree is no barrier to embarking on a career in law and will provide an introduction to The College's Graduate Diploma in Law programme. Attendees will hear from College alumni and current students about their experiences of transferring from established careers into the legal profession, and there will be opportunities to network with members of the Midlands legal community.

Making the jump to law from other professions is common, as a survey conducted by The College at the beginning of this academic year reveals. The survey found that nearly 20% of all the course provider's students were career changers, and that they have come from, most commonly, backgrounds in marketing, PR and sales; banking, finance and insurance; and health and medicine.

Director of The College of Law Birmingham, Bernardette Griffin, said: "Law is a popular choice for people wanting to change careers and we get lots of enquiries from potential students. The main reasons they give for the switch include wanting a challenging and varied career, a clear career path with good progression prospects, intellectual challenge and a desire to give something back to society."
