Legal Week has reported on a trend that sees fewer law graduates going on to complete the LPC, BPTC and ILEX courses. Compared to the previous year, 3.7% fewer students in 2010 progressed to the vocational stage of training to be a lawyer.
The annual survey of graduate destinations from the Higher Education Careers Services Unit – called, "What Do Graduates Do?" – showed that in 2010 just over one-third of law graduates (33.9%) opted for further study of some description, with the bulk of those (26.4%) choosing professional law courses and the remainder signing up for other postgrad degrees or teaching.
The figures also showed that there were 12,515 law graduates in 2010 (for whom law was their first degree), of which 81.4% responded to the survey. Nearly two-thirds of the respondents were female.
