Legal Futures is running a conference focusing on the challenges facing lawyers and the range of responses to them. New ways to practise law, sponsored by NatWest, will look at issues such as external funding, which non-lawyers are eyeing up the market and virtual legal practices.
Delegates will also be first to hear the results of specially commissioned research into what consumers and SMEs want from their lawyers. The survey reveals that many law firms see rival practices closing due to alternative business structures and legal aid cuts as a key opportunity in the coming months and years.
Conference speakers include Adam Sampson, the chief legal ombudsman, Professor Stephen Mayson of the Legal Services Institute, and Craig Holt, CEO of QualitySolicitors (see "WHSmith and QualitySolicitors to offer in-store legal services").
