CoL York bursary applications open

The College of Law in York has announced that it is inviting applications from law students for the annual Tracy Kaye/Berrymans Lace Mawer LLP Memorial Bursary, which helps towards LPC tuition fees. The successful candidate will also be offered one week's work experience at Berrymans Lace Mawer in Leeds before starting the LPC at CoL.
The £1,500 award is open to students who have accepted a place on the LPC at CoL York and can show that their financial position would make it difficult to further their legal studies without it. They need also demonstrate a commitment to a career as a solicitor and to helping others through charity or pro bono work. An interest in contentious legal practice is also desirable.
Berrymans Lace Mawer launched the bursary in 2009 in memory of their colleague Tracy Kaye, who specialised in personal injury litigation before her death in 2006. Chris Coughlin, senior partner of Berrymans Lace Mawer Leeds, said: "We are delighted to work with the CoL in offering this bursary to a prospective LPC student in memory of our colleague, Tracy Kaye. It is important that talented students are recognised and rewarded for their efforts and we look forward to meeting the candidates."
