LawWorks crowns student pro bono stars

updated on 05 April 2011

Pro bono charity LawWorks has celebrated the outstanding contributions of students and law school staff to pro bono work at its annual awards ceremony. Held at the House of Commons, the event was attended by students and staff who had travelled from as far as Scotland. Attorney General Dominic Grieve QC presented the awards.

Best Contribution by a Law School went to the University of Kent; Best Team of Students went to BPP Law School's Streetlaw Homeless Team; and Best New Pro Bono Activity went to the University of the West of England Domestic Abuse Service.

Best Contribution by an Individual Student went to University of Strathclyde student Alasdair Stewart, for his efforts developing the school's law clinic and devising a ground-breaking case management system which he shared with other Scottish law clinics. Alasdair said: "The awards demonstrate not only the enthusiasm of students, but the commitment of universities across the country to pro bono projects. It is amazing what you can achieve and the huge impact you can make by working together; this is hopefully something all students involved in pro bono work can take with them through their careers."
