College of Law (CoL) students have won two prestigious legal skills competitions at national level. Teams of CoL students triumphed in the National Negotiation Competition and the DAC Beachcroft Mooting Shield in an impressive display of advocacy skills.
The National Negotiation Competition finals, held at Manchester Metropolitan University, saw two of CoL's GDL students overcome challenges from 11 other teams to earn a place in the forthcoming International Negotiation Competition in Belfast. The CoL can celebrate another success with the victory of a four-student team from its Manchester centre in the DAC Beachcroft Mooting shield, which facilitates competition between aspiring lawyers from institutions across the north of the country.
In other news, the CoL's own internal mooting competition was also a success, with the final taking place at the Supreme Court in London and judged by Justice of the Supreme Court, The Right Hon the Lord Walker of Gestingthorpe. Teams from the CoL's Moorgate and Manchester centres went head to head, with the Moorgate team triumphant on this occasion.
Mark Keith, a senior lecturer at CoL's Manchester centre, said: "I developed The College of Law National Mooting Competition as I felt that, as a leading law school, we should have a prestigious competition which gave our students the opportunity to moot nationally against other centres in the organisation and, thanks to the assistance of the Supreme Court, enabled them to moot in the highest court in the country."
