Time to walk the line for legal aid

updated on 04 April 2012

On 21 May London's lawyers will once again emerge from their offices for the London Legal Walk, an event organised by the London Legal Support Trust to raise money for legal aid and access to justice. They will be joined by such legal luminaries as the lord chief justice, the attorney general, the master of the rolls, the director of public prosecutions and a delegation from the Leveson inquiry.

The London walk is just one of several walks happening around the country between April and September, organised by the seven regional Legal Support Trusts and the Access to Justice Foundation. Last year, the event marked one of the biggest gatherings of lawyers in the world, when over 5,000 legal professionals took part in raising much needed funds to help access to justice. The 2012 event in London has already attracted 240 teams.

Dominic Grieve QC MP, the attorney general, said: "The London Legal Walk is a superb opportunity to come together with fellow lawyers from across the whole profession, and to do so for a very deserving cause. I am looking forward to seeing a whole range of teams joining us for this year's walk in support of the great work of our pro bono and legal advice agencies."
