SRA blocks Kaplan LPC admissions test

updated on 03 February 2011

Kaplan Law School's plan to introduce an admissions test for entry onto its LPC course (see "Kaplan is first to introduce LPC admissions test") has been blocked by the SRA, according to a recent report in the Lawyer. In October 2010 Kaplan announced proposals to put all of its future GDL and LPC students through a rigorous entry test involving a presentation, written examination and interview.

An SRA statement featured in the Lawyer said: "The SRA has not validated any LPC proposals which feature aptitude testing as part of the admissions arrangements. The SRA is aware that the Law Society is presently carrying out research into the possible merits of such tests and we await their findings with interest."

Kaplan's announcement last autumn coincided with a Law Society consultation into the viability of LPC aptitude tests as a means of making the application process fairer and reducing the number of people enrolling on the course. The results of the report are due to be announced next month.
