According to reports in The Lawyer and RollonFriday, the Law Central Applications Board (Lawcabs) will be replacing staggered LPC and GDL application dates with a single (as yet unknown) deadline. Previously, those students who submitted their applications by 1 February were the first to be considered by law schools, while those who submitted after the deadline were reviewed and allocated any remaining places in April.
As RollonFriday points out, removal of the staggered deadline has been met with a mixed response from law school providers. Some, including City Law School's deputy GDL course director Sarah Gale, fear it will encourage applicants to delay submitting their forms. "There's a danger that far more students might now leave it until the last minute to apply," she told the publication. However, BPP Law School chief executive Peter Crisp commented: "Having a rolling deadline is beneficial for applicants, as they won't be straightjacketed by strict deadlines and can find out much more quickly the outcome of their application."
Lawcabs is in the process of updating its website and application form in time for applications for courses beginning in January 2012.
