Freshfields to run workshops and competition for students

updated on 01 February 2012

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is now accepting applications for two upcoming events that are designed to help students learn more about life as a lawyer in a commercial firm, as well as entries to a competition with Olympics tickets as the prize.

First, is the firm’s "International Workshop", which will present attendees with the chance to compare life in two of Freshfields’ offices, spending the first day in London and the second in Paris. It will be held on 29-30 March 2012 and is open to all students.

Second, is a two-day "First-Year Focus Programme", taking place on 10-11 April, and open to first-year undergraduate students. There will be a strong emphasis on providing skills training in relation to training contract and vacation scheme applications and interviews.

Elizabeth Cope, head of UK trainee solicitor recruitment at Freshfields, said: "We wanted to do something more substantial for first-year students this year so for the first time will be running our first-year event across two days. [It] will really concentrate on the skills and attributes students will need to develop to make their applications stand out when they come to apply for vacation placements in the autumn."

Applications for both events should be made by CV and covering letter to [email protected] by 24 February.

And that's not all - the firm is also running a competition for all students currently studying at a UK or Irish university in its capacity as official legal services provider to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Entrants are being asked to say, in no more than 200 words, why they would like to attend the games with Freshfields. Winners will receive a pair of complimentary tickets to the Games. Send your entry to [email protected] by 20 February (full T&Cs at www.freshfields.com/uktrainees).
