Why join the European Law Students’ Association?

The European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) United Kingdom is a law society like no other; ELSA UK isn’t just individual societies at universities, but a part of the biggest law students’ association in the world. Here at ELSA, we have a clear vision for a “just world in which there is respect for human dignity and cultural diversity”. That cultural diversity manifests itself over 70,000 ELSA members across Europe, with 44 countries and groups at over 375 law faculties.
ELSA UK is now present in 25 universities, with thousands of members and growing every year. Even if there isn’t a group at your university, we always welcome new individual members or initiative Local Groups to join our network.
ELSA UK has something for everyone and we welcome any student. It doesn’t matter if you are European or not; whether you are a law student interested in commercial law, human rights, refugee law; or maybe even not a law student at all. Our members come from all backgrounds and degrees and ELSA has so much to offer that everyone will find something for them.
ELSA’s true value is in the sheer range of events we offer to our members. As a member of a Local Group, you gain access not only to the projects organised at your university but also all of the events across the UK. We are proud to be organising an annual Commercial Moot Court Competition in collaboration with the prestigious Maitland Chambers as well as the Climate Moot with the internationally known One Tree Planted foundation.
We also organise a range of webinars, our latest being the ELSA Webinars Academy on Law and the Environment with speakers from the UN Environmental Programme and the former UN Special Rapporteurs. ELSA UK offers a wide range of different events as well – from international conferences to social initiatives, there is always something happening.

From intense legal courses to international traineeships in the top firms and organisations around the world, our Network gives you a unique opportunity to expand your legal awareness and challenge your skills in a supportive environment.
