Attending a virtual open day or insight scheme is a valuable opportunity to meet a law firm’s people, learn about life in the organisation and establish the first connection that could eventually lead to a training contract. Although the coronavirus pandemic makes in-person events impossible for the autumn term, there is still plenty going on that students should be aware of.

Here is an overview of open days and insight schemes to apply for over the autumn and beyond. This list is extensive but not comprehensive, so be sure to check the LCN Diary and firms’ websites and social media for opportunities. Start by investigating the firm’s profile on LawCareers.Net to introduce yourself to its business, work areas, offices and so on, then if your interest has been sparked, head to its recruitment site to find out more and apply.
Ahead with Ashurst is a week-long programme for first-year law students or second-year law students on a four-year course. The scheme will run over 12-16 April 2021.

Bristows’ open days focus on intellectual property (IP), the firm’s key specialism. Students can apply to attend the following webinars:
To be eligible to attend one of the general IP workshops, students must be in the second, penultimate or final year of an undergraduate degree (any subject). The IP workshop for scientists and engineers is open to all undergraduate and postgraduate science and engineering degrees.

The magic circle is running ‘pathfinder’, a two-day insight programme for first-year students or those in the second year of a four-year course. Events take place on 15-16 March 2021 and 14-15 April 2021.

First-year undergraduates and those in the second year of a four-year course can apply for the firm’s ‘first step’ programme. Applications are open from 4 January to 14 February 2021. Telephone interviews will be held in March 2021 and successful candidates will attend the programme from 19 to 23 July 2021.
