US firms Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP and Locke Lord have signed a Letter of Intent to combine their two firms, although the proposal is subject to further negotiations and partner approval.
The combined firm, named in the joint press release as Locke Lord Edwards, would have more than 1,000 lawyers situated in 23 cities. Its gross revenue is estimated at $675 million, placing it among the top 50 US law firms according to The American Lawyer's annual rankings. Edwards Wildman was itself formed from the merger of Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge and Chicago firm Wildman Harrold Allen & Dixon in 2011.
Jerry Clements, chair of Locke Lord, said: "Our two firms share many similarities - exceptional and well-respected lawyers; a wide geographical footprint in the United States and abroad; and highly regarded practices.[… ] [W]e will spend the next few months working on details and introductions, and hopefully be able to move forward together in a way that offers increasing breadth and depth to our clients."
