Speechly Bircham and Withers discuss potential merger

Speechly Bircham and Withers are in discussions to merge.
The proposed merger would create a new top 25 UK law firm, which The Lawyer reports would employ approximately 500 lawyers and create a combined turnover of over £170 million.
The two firms revealed the merger discussions in a brief joint statement: "Both Withers and Speechly Bircham have been growing their international offering in response to changes in the global legal market and the increasing importance of private capital in the world economy. There is still a lot more work to be done before any final decision can be reached and so we will not be issuing any further comment at this stage."
