Southern high street firms emerging well from recession, research finds

Small and high street law firms in London and the South East are recovering well from the effects of the financial crisis in 2008, according to new research.

Chartered accountants HW Fisher & Company surveyed 75 smaller law firms in London and the South East, with responses showing overall growth of 4.5%, rising to 10% among the larger examples of these 'small' practices. Profits have also risen by as much as 17% in some cases.

The poll also found that 36% of the firms taking part were pursuing outside investment, while 43% are planning to bring non-lawyers into their partnerships - perhaps in recognition of the need for greater financial resilience following the economic recession.
