Slaughter and May to retain 95% of current crop of newly qualifying solicitors

updated on 06 January 2016

Slaughter and May is the first firm in 2016 to reveal its qualifying trainee retention rates – the magic circle firm has announced that it is retaining 95% of its newly qualified (NQ) solicitors.

This means that 38 out of 40 of the firm’s current crop of qualifying trainees have found NQ positions at the firm. As Legal Cheek reports, the 95% retention rate is an increase on the firms’ retention figures in 2015, which came in at 88% for spring qualifiers and 89% for autumn NQs.

A spokesperson for the firm commented: “[The 95% retention rate] underlines our focus on recruiting for the long term future of the firm.”
