Slaughter and May is the first magic circle firm to announce its 2020 partner promotions, with eight new partners appointed – two of whom are women.
Of the eight promoted this year, seven of the new partners are in London and one in Hong Kong. The promotions went to the following individuals: Tim Blanchard (investigations); Natalie Cook (corporate); Alexander Dustan (corporate); Harry Hecht (corporate); Ben Heron (corporate, Hong Kong), Claire Jackson (corporate), Oliver Moir (infrastructure, energy, natural resources) and Samay Shah (financing).
The firm’s 2020 promotions have seen an increase from 2019’s, where only two male partners were appointed. Previous partner promotions included four in 2018, seven in 2017, and the largest number of partner promotions, at 10, was in 2016.
Senior partner Steven Cooke stated: “Each of these talented individuals has already established a strong track record of providing excellent advice to our clients and will make an important contribution to the continuing growth of our business. The fact that we have promoted lawyers from a broad spread of practice areas in these uncertain times reflects the underlying strength of the firm.”
International law firm Reed Smith announced almost 30 new partner promotions worldwide earlier in 2020, with all London promotions going to women.
