Dentons has made a donation of £48,000 to support three undergraduate bursaries at Queen Mary University of London’s (QMUL) School of Law. The funding – supplemented by the university itself – will provide three bursaries of £6,500 a year over three years to undergraduate students from local boroughs.
The funds have come from Dentons’ dormant client account balances, which are allowed to paid to designated charities where the rightful owner cannot be traced, as per SRA regulations.
Dentons has long been involved with QMUL, particularly with its Poplaw Free Legal Advice Clinic. The recipients of the bursaries will be expected to volunteer at Poplaw and encouraged to apply for Dentons’ summer vacation scheme.
Brandon Ransley, Dentons’ UK managing partner, said: “We are delighted to be able to support students and their families in this way as they embark on their studies. Dentons has a longstanding commitment to supporting the communities in which we work and live, such as our delivery of free legal advice to the community of Poplar, East London and our initiative with City Gateway to provide young people with mentoring, training, work experience and one year apprenticeship places. We support communities and individuals through many initiatives so it is a privilege to be able to contribute to the QMUL bursary scheme.”
