Nottingham Law School legal advice centre becomes 'teaching law firm'

Nottingham Law School (NLS) has been granted an alternative business structure (ABS) license allowing its pro bono legal advice centre to become a full legal practice - making NLS the second ‘teaching law firm’ in the country after The University of Law.
The NLS legal advice centre serves the dual purpose of helping the local community while enabling students to gain valuable legal work experience under the supervision of qualified solicitors. Now the centre will be able to do more, following the Solicitors Regulation Authority granting it recognition as a fully functional law firm. The news follows The University of Law’s pro bono clinic also being granted an ABS license in March.
Jenny Holloway, NLS’s associate dean, said: "The teaching law firm will provide outstanding educational opportunities for our students. As a university, community engagement is very important to us and operating as an ABS allows us to expand our services for the public good."
