Former competition lawyer Mia Forbes Pirie has been named UK Independent Mediator 2021 by Corporate International.
Mediation is a key growth area for the legal sector, with impressive success rates and proven cost effectiveness making it an attractive alternative to litigation. The need for mediation services has become even more acute during the covid-19 pandemic, and Forbes Pirie’s award reflects her efforts over the past year to focus on localised issues.
During the first lockdown, she facilitated a free weekly support meeting on Zoom attended by a wide range of the public, including NHS workers, lawyers, actors, civil servants and small business owners. Forbes Pirie has also provided free online events to help people have healthier discussion around race, following the killing of George Floyd in the US.
Since leaving her career as a City lawyer, Forbes Pirie has focused on mediating difficult workplace and commercial disputes and helping people to have progressive conversations on challenging topics. G7 France representative Sylvain Chevassus, said: “Mia immediately got a good grasp of our complex topics. She helped us have both political and technical discussions on the circular economy smoothly and with great efficiency whilst maintaining a lively mood”.
