Co-op runs trial of legal services

updated on 21 June 2011

The Legal Services Act is gathering momentum, with the Co-operative Bank currently running a trial of its legal services through a handful of its bank branches. The bank plans to offer legal advice to the general public when the act goes live in October 2011.

Reported in Legal Week, the Co-Op has been offering members free legal advice in three of its Bristol branches. Customers have been able to drop in or book an advance appointment.

Co-operative Legal Services already offers advice on personal injury claims, wills, conveyancing and employment law to its members over the phone. However, the pilot scheme will help the bank "assess how legal services can be delivered on the high street".
